5Hard to find Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
By M. Barker
Some people use this as a cooking oil for high temps and also for eating raw. Well, I use it in massage therapy. This is a phenominal product and because it is cold pressed still has the scent of coconut. The aroma is not overwhelming and does not linger on the skin. Because this oil is solid at less than 76 degrees you have to warm it to liquify. To keep from becoming rancid, once open it should be kept in the refrigerator. It contains no preservatives. It will absolutely stain your linens as it is very thick. To remove spray PAM or other brand aerosol anti stick cooking spray on the stain. It will then launder right out. Just know that a soapy wash will not remove this. As a skin treatment Jarrow and Garden of Life are the premier coconut oil perveyors. A+. 2-3 oz is enough for one massage. I use a scale to weigh out for each client, which everyone should do to avoid cross contamination. Try.

5Best tasting and consistently great
By J. John
I have tried other coconut oils. They can taste funny. The Jarrow Extra Virgin tastes great, like a delicious light coconut flavor that adds a great boost to stir-fry, meats, even scrambled eggs taste terrific. The Jarrow regular coconut oil (not extra-virgin) is also nice but has no taste. I like this one best and will continue to buy it. Yum yum! Also makes a fun candy coating for bananas when mixed with unsweetened cocoa powder and a little cinnamon. Dip banana slices in the mixture and refrigerate until solid. Enjoy!

4Pretty good compared to Nutiva
By TW
We've used the Nutiva organic extra virgin coconut oil for some time, and thought it would be good to try this coconut oil from Jarrow and compare.

We've been really happy with the Nutiva and wondered how much a difference (if any) we could tell from a different organic extra virgin coconut oil.

- Taste -

The first thing we noticed with the Jarrow (this coconut oil) is that it tasted for lack of a better word...more "coconutty." It's not a bad thing, in fact the taste is quite pleasant.

- Smell -

Definitely smells more coconutty than the Nutiva. It's not strong or overbearing. It smells pretty good, but this will depend on your olfactory preferences.

- Texture -

The Nutiva seems to be a little more smooth and the Jarrow a little more flakey when trying to spread or get it out of the container (in solid state).

The Jarrow labeling states for best results to refrigerate after opening. Well...that makes it quite hard to scoop out.

- Appearance -

The Nutiva has a noticeable yellow hue to it. The Jarrow is pure white. Side by side, you can really see the difference.

- Process -

Both products state Organic, extra virgin, and unrefined. However, the Jarrow says it is expeller pressed while the Nutiva is cold pressed?

Which is better? Cold or expeller pressed? After researching a bit, it looks like unfortunately, the term "cold pressed" can be used even when the process is not really cold pressed. So it's important to look up a company's process on their website. Nutiva seems good, but it's hard to always be sure. Livestrong states that expeller pressed gets out more oil but may diminish the taste and aroma; however, we found that the Jarrow which is expeller pressed to have more flavor and aroma than the Nutiva which states it is Cold Pressed.

So, the Jarrow wins for taste and smell. Nutiva wins for texture and perhaps a better process in the cold-pressed processing.
